Abstract
Non-formal education has become a central element in lifelong learning, complementing formal education and fostering personal, social, and community development. This study aims to characterize the qualification network in Portalegre (2019-2023), focusing on institutions promoting non-formal education and their impact on the local population.
Adopting a mixed-method approach and educational mapping, the research identified 198 institutions with educational potential. The results reveal a diverse ecosystem that promotes social inclusion, values local knowledge, and strengthens community cohesion. These institutions demonstrate significant resilience, with inter-institutional collaboration emerging as a decisive factor for the sustainability and effectiveness of their practices.
The study concludes that strengthening cooperation networks and integrating non-formal education into public policies are essential conditions for local development. This research contributes to the reflection on the territorialization of education and serves as a strategic tool for Portalegre’s Educational Map.
