Abstract
This article aims to understand the relevance of Paulo Freire's Literacy Pedagogy today, based on a current experience inspired by his critical and liberating theory. This is a qualitative (Minayo, 2007) and documentary (Lüdke and André, 2018) study, preceded by a literature review (Costa and Zoltowski, 2014), and its corpus of analysis consists of studies conducted on Paulo Freire's literacy experience, as well as records of a proposal inspired by the 40 hours of Angicos in four editions. In the literature review, several authors emphasize the importance of Angicos as a symbol of liberating and critical pedagogy, also highlighting its legacy for popular education and participatory practices in contexts of social exclusion, remaining a central reference in the debate on literacy, citizenship, and social transformation. Regarding the literacy experience, the results revealed that Freire's literacy theory remains alive, current, and necessary, constituting a possible path to human emancipation.
