Abstract
Theme: The global scenario has been marked by major conflicts and disagreements driven by social violence. In this context, education plays a fundamental role in either maintaining or resisting such barbaric acts.
Objective: To analyze how emancipatory education can be an ally in combating violence.
Method: Bibliographic research in books and scientific articles. A theoretical analysis of the results was carried out.
Obtained results: Progressive education seeks non-alienating teaching to confront the contradictions of a reality that dehumanizes individuals (Freire, 1968). Faced with the coldness of individualism and the neoliberal pursuit of material gain, the human being becomes indifferent to the suffering of others and fails to see their fellow human as a dignified being.
Contribution: A reality with greater social justice emerges when the cycle of structural violence is broken.
