Abstract
In line with the theoretical, philosophical, and anthropological assumptions defended by Bernard Charlot, this ongoing dissertation research, linked to the Postgraduate Program in Education at the State University of Southwest Bahia, aims to understand the meanings that a group of young people enrolled in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) at a state school in Bahia establish with the curricular knowledge of Portuguese Language. Methodologically, this study uses a qualitative, ethnographic approach, employing the following data production techniques: narrative interviews, participant observation, and knowledge assessment, using thematic analysis to organize the data. In this vein, the study will contribute to students reflecting on the relationships they establish with the knowledge present in the subject and school knowledge as a whole. Thus, we do not present results, but, based on ethnographic experience, we perceive that this curricular knowledge is not restricted to the school; it assumes important roles in their lives – as a mediator of communication and as an enabler of social ascension.
